The Image of the other

Description of the project:

This project is built on the framework of the worldwide famous project “The Image of the Other” and is meant for pupils aged 12 to 14. Pupils will work on the project (10 letters) throughout the schoolyear and will conclude it with a final virtual “meeting”.
Duration: October – May 2003

 

Age group: 12 – 14 (+ /- 1)

 

Number of schools: 2 schools from Italy and Spain

Centre Educatiu Fax, L’Hospitalet (Barcelona) Spain

 

Subject:

Languages: using a common language to comunicate (English) they learn different cultural and social backgrounds so that cultural exchange takes place.  

 

Activities:

Students write e-mails (letter) about the 10 themes of the project.

For each theme, teachers and students decide together what and how they’re going to develope it (with drawings, pictures, games, dialogues, rolw-plays, songs, videos, etc.)

A common webpage is created by the students and pupils send the final products to the common website of the project.

The webpage will updated throughout the year with all the written, visual and oral products in English.

Students prepare questions, reports for the final “virtual” meeting

They “virtually” meet each other: they talk/chat/discuss about their experience.

  

Expected outcomes/products:

Webpage with all the material (parts of the letters – discussions – pictures – games – videos – songs – student’s corner with comments and evaluation etc.) in English.  

Final meeting through the web (Netmeeting) with discussion and evaluation of the project.

 

Project lenguage:

English plus the participants’ languages.  

 

General timetable:
  1. June – partner schools decide to continue the friendship and design the detailed project.
  2. Septembre –Kick-off meeting in Prague with the teachers involved in the project.
  3. 3. October-March sending e-mails (aprox. 2 letters a month), videos, pictures and songs; building the common webpages with the materials they send to each other.
  4. April evaluation of the project by teachers and pupils. Final “virtual” meeting with final report.
